CARRICK DOG SHELTER AND RESCUE
Adoption requirements - Please CLICK HERE for a detailed document.
Every dog whether an adult or pup that leaves the shelter is accompanied by a full and comprehensive adoption contract , the conditions of which must be agreed and signed for by every adopter and a member of the team at the shelter .
All the points included in the contract are stated to protect the welfare of the animal and adopters are under a moral obligation when signing that they agree to all aspects of the contract .
The contract is also accompanied by a full information pack and vaccination card .
Although sometimes pre home checks are not undertaken EVERY adoption is followed up by visit / contact shortly afterwards to ensure both dog and new family are happy and doing well, the shelter expects the adopter to be honest as to what they can realistically provide for a dog and time / space / exercise needs / dogs temperament are all aspects that should be seriously considered before choosing a new pet . The shelter endeavours to match each dog up with a new home that will suit its needs best but adopters need to provide the right information in order for this to happen successfully .
One of the most important aspects that must be provided is a safe and secure area in which to keep the dog - anybody not being able to do so should not apply to this shelter for adoption .
If you are unsure what constitutes a safe area for any particular dog please ask a member of the shelter team who will be happy to advise .
Children rely on their families to provide a happy and safe enviroment in which to thrive , dogs are no different so please bear this point in mind .
Homechecks may be undertaken when the shelter is placing an abused or special needs dog or in certain other circumstances at the shelters discretion .
All dogs over the age of 6 months are flea`d and wormed , vaccinated , microchipped and neutered prior to release – the requested donation is €180 .
Pups under the age the age of 6 months are flea`d and wormed , vaccinated and microchipped – the requested donation is € 100 with the adopter arranging and paying for neutering in month advised OR € 180 if adopter wishes to bring back pup at 6 months of age for the shelter to neuter .
In addition all dogs released require a dog license , these cost €12.70 and can be processed at the shelter .
We kindly ask that when you are adopting a dog and making a donation that you bear in mind that Carrick Dog Shelter is run totally on a volunteer basis by dedicated and committed dog lovers . The yearly running costs of the shelter are over €150,000 and despite donations there is always a considerable shortfall .
If you can afford to donate more then please consider doing so – the shelter and all of its dogs need as much help as possible to ensure a continuation of this facility , thankyou .
