CARRICK DOG SHELTER AND RESCUE
How the shelter makes a difference
Once a dog has entered the shelter the road to preparation and recovery is started , some dogs have a longer road to travel than others .
Not only does the shelter house healthy animals it also cares for and nurses many neglect and abuse cases each year . These are the hardest and costliest dogs for the shelter to accommodate . Many require extensive medical treatment or surgery and will usually have to stay in the shelter for much longer than average , this can sometimes stretch into many months before the dog is fit enough to be released into a new home .
Pups under the age of 6 months are flea`d , wormed , vaccinated and microchipped prior to release .
All dogs over the age of 6 months are flea`d , wormed , vaccinated , microchipped and spayed / neutered prior to release – most of these treatments are carried out at the shelter along with all the other daily routines that caring for approx 70 dogs entails .
Carrick Dog Shelter supports pet neutering as a means of controlling litters of unwanted puppies and is always happy to help with public queries on this or any other matter of responsible dog ownership and welfare .
Public Integration
Carrick Dog Shelter continues to facilitate educational visits from schools/ groups etc as well as work experience and special needs placements . Any person / organization interested should contact the shelter to arrange suitable time slots , we welcome all requests and queries .
Volunteer Accomodation
As the shelter is purely run by volunteers all offers of help are greatly appreciated . Most of our volunteers are from the local surroundings but others come from further distances , sometimes from other countries . These volunteers can offer help from as little as a weekend to longer periods , some do this instead of taking holidays to gain experience in animal welfare and care .Whilst the shelter cannot offer any form of payment for this help it does offer a complimentary accommodation suite on site available for the duration . Please contact the shelter for availability / queries .
Acknowledgements
Thanks to the internet many of our dogs find new homes a long way away in places such as Sweden and England as well as in every location in Southern and Northern Ireland !
Without the compassion of adopters this would not be possible and each and every one of them deserves a huge vote of thanks .It takes a large and varied team to run a busy shelter , the shelter acknowledges all of them for their kind help and support with special thanks to the following:
